Cart
Choose how the cart works in Theme settings > Cart > Cart type. Every cart surface shows the same line details and totals, and updating one line updates every line and the totals.
Cart types
| Cart type | What happens after Add to cart |
|---|---|
| Drawer (default) | The cart drawer slides in from the side with the whole cart. Shoppers keep browsing when they close it |
| Page | Shoppers go to the cart page |
| Popup notification | A small panel under the header shows the item just added, with View cart and Check out. It stays open until the shopper closes it, presses Esc or clicks elsewhere; it never closes on a timer |
With every cart type, the cart icon in the header opens the drawer (Drawer) or the cart page
(Page and Popup notification), and the cart page itself is always available at /cart.
The cart drawer
Dosewell calls the drawer a regimen drawer, because it lays the cart out as a daily routine:
- Heading with the item count, and the cost per day under it: “Your daily formulas cost $2.24 a day.”
- Lines grouped by time of day (Morning, With food, Evening, Anytime) from each product’s
calyx.timing. - Pairs with your cart: one or two products to add, each with a one-time add button.
- Totals: order discounts by name, the estimated total, the taxes and shipping note, the order note (when on), Check out and Shopify’s accelerated checkout buttons (when on).
The drawer opens with the cart already in place, closes with Esc or its close button, and returns focus to the button that opened it.
Line details
Every line shows, where it applies:
- the image on the product’s color, the title and the chosen options;
- the subscription plan name, with Change to pick another delivery frequency;
- the unit price (like $12.80/100 g) when the variant has one;
- the price of one item (“$24.00 each”) when the quantity is more than one;
- each line discount by name and amount;
- the line price, with the original price struck through when a discount applies;
- the quantity selector (0 removes the line) and Remove;
- “Includes” with the products of a bundle made with Shopify’s bundles;
- a message under the line when Shopify changes the quantity (stock or quantity rules).
Cart settings
All in Theme settings > Cart.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Cart type | Drawer, Page or Popup notification |
| Cart and quick view color scheme | Default Scheme 2 (white). Also used by quick view and the cart page summary |
| Group items by time of day | Groups lines by calyx.timing. Lines without it (a gift card, an accessory) go under Anytime; when no line has a time of day, the headings are left out |
| Show cost per day | The cost per day line; see below |
| Offer subscription on one-time items | On one-time lines whose product has a subscription plan: “Subscribe and save 15%” with Switch, the price per delivery, the frequency and your Subscription terms |
| Show order note | An “Add a note” field |
| Show accelerated checkout buttons | Shopify’s accelerated checkout buttons under Check out |
| Show products that pair with the cart | The “Pairs with your cart” list |
| Recommendations heading | Default “Pairs with your cart” |
| Products to suggest | Up to four products, shown when Shopify has no complementary products for the cart |
| Collection to show when the cart is empty | Where the empty cart’s “Shop all formulas” button goes; all products when empty |
Cost per day
For each line whose variant (or product) has calyx.servings, Dosewell takes the price of one item
after line discounts, multiplies it by the product’s calyx.daily_servings (1 when empty), and
divides it by the servings. It adds up the lines and shows the total. The quantity does not
change it, because two bottles last twice as long. The line is hidden when no line has servings.
Example: Night Shift, $38.00 for 30 servings, one serving a day, is $1.27 a day.
Pairs with your cart
Dosewell asks Shopify for complementary products of the first product in the cart (you set them in the Search and Discovery app). When there are none, it shows Products to suggest. Sold out products and products already in the cart are left out. With neither, the list is hidden.
Subscriptions in the cart
With a subscription app and Offer subscription on one-time items on, one-time lines of products with a subscription plan offer Switch. Subscribed lines show their plan and Change. The totals show “Subscription savings” when subscribed lines cost less than one-time. Without a subscription app, none of this shows.
Discount codes
Dosewell shows every discount that applies: automatic discounts and codes, on the line or on the order. Shoppers enter discount codes at checkout; the cart has no code field.
Empty cart
“Your cart is empty.” with a short line, your main menu’s collection links as chips, and a Shop all formulas button to Collection to show when the cart is empty. To change these words, see the FAQ.
Cart page
The cart template has the Cart section, then a Featured collection headed “Popular formulas” (your newest products until you pick a collection).
The Cart section has Show product disclaimer (prints Theme settings > Claims > Product disclaimer under the checkout button), Color scheme and padding; everything else follows Theme settings > Cart. On desktop the lines sit on the left and the summary stays in view on the right. On phones a checkout bar stays at the bottom of the screen until the summary scrolls into view.
Apps that change the cart
Dosewell connects to Shopify’s cart actions, so apps (and AI shopping assistants) that add to or change the cart through them update the drawer, the count and the totals without reloading the page.
The routine builder
The Routine builder section (Sections and blocks) adds and removes real cart lines, so the cart and the routine always agree. Its review button opens the cart drawer, or the cart page with the other cart types.
